West Limerick Children’s Services:
West Limerick Children’s Services is a partnership between the Brothers of Charity Services Limerick and the Health Service Executive. The West Limerick Early Intervention and School Age Teams provide specialist therapeutic assessment and intervention to children with complex disabilities and/or developmental delay in the West Limerick catchment area. The Service is committed to working in partnership with families of children and young people with disabilities and/or developmental delay to minimise the impact of disability and maximize opportunities for growth and development. The service is child and family centred and is offered across a range of settings. These may include the centre, home, school and preschool as appropriate.
Children access services though either the Early Intervention Team (from birth to approximately 6 years) or through the School Age Team (from approximately 6 – 18 years of age).
The Teams strive to deliver an interdisciplinary service which is:
- Child and Family Centred
- Team Based
- High Quality
- Accessible
- Integrated
- Safe
Both West Limerick Early Intervention Team and School Age Team offer services which include the following range of disciplines:
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Social Work
- Psychology
- Early Intervention Specialist
The Service supports children who require the input of at least two multidisciplinary professionals to cater for their needs. All of these disciplines are supported by a Children’s Services Manager, Administrator and Clerical personnel. In West Limerick, there are currently 150 children receiving support from the Early Intervention Team and 250 children attend the School Age Team.
