TeamWork Limerick Programme

The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland Limerick Region (BOCSILR) are currently running a programme in conjunction with Technical University of the Shannon (TUS) and Employability Limerick called ‘TeamWork’.
This ‘WorkAbility’ Initiative – Inclusive Pathways to Employment 2024 to 2028 is to support people with disabilities to access employment.
It is a Pobal administered project co-funded by the Government of Ireland, through the Department of Social Protection, and the European Union.
In total 80 participants from across a number of service providers will complete the programme over the next 4 years.

The programme will run for 26 weeks in TUS (half day per week) over the academic year and will be facilitated by two college lecturers, two employment coaches and support staff. Each participant will also undertake a work placement of 12 weeks (half day per week) and the expectation is that participants will gain the skills and knowledge required to secure paid part time employment.
The Aims of this programme are to improve the employment prospects of people with an Intellectual Disability, who are distant from the labour market, by:

  • Attending a third level college programme to build skills to become job ready.
  • Undertaking a 12 week work placement fully supported by a qualified
    employment coach.
  •  To educate and provide training for potential employers in supporting people
    with intellectual disabilities in the work place.

The objective of this programme is for each participant to reach their potential and if
possible to get a paid part time employment position.
The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland Limerick Region (BOCSILR) is partnering with the following two organisations for the delivery of this project.
1. Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) Department of Lifelong Learning and Social Studies.
2. Employability Limerick.
The participants on this programme will be adults with intellectual disabilities who currently attend the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland Limerick and Clare Regions, Avista, Rehab Care, HSE disability day services. In fact any person who attends a service that provides supports to individuals with an intellectual disability can make an application.
The expected participants of this programme will be both new entrants and also those who previously completed the “Let’s Get to Work” programme.
The TeamWork Programme will include:

  • 26 weeks attendance in TUS college (Sept to June)
  • Maximum of 20 participants per year. (Two classes of 10)
  • The programme will run for four years up to 2028
  • 3 hours per week 10.00 to 13.00
  • Graduation Ceremony with a Non-accredited Certificate in Inclusive Employment
  • Facilitated by 2 programme tutors.
  • Modules designed to give people the skills to increase their employment prospects.
  • Mandatory one half day per week work placement over a twelve week period (Each service must provide on the job support to both participant and employer)
