Volunteer with Us

Volunteering is an important role within our services, our volunteers enrich the lives of the people we support by contributing their time, talents and skills in facilitating opportunities for engagement in their local communities. There are many roles for volunteers within the service, depending on each individual supported, their personal choice and what they want from their volunteer experience. Some of the people we support would like to attend social activities or sporting events without the support of staff or family, others just want someone to befriend and share interests with over a cup of coffee.

Many of our volunteers go on to gain employment within the service and many of our retired staff go on to volunteer within the service after retirement, such is the level of positive experience and fulfilment gained from the role.

We have a dedicated volunteer coordinator to support our volunteers through the process of Garda vetting, induction, training and matching with a suitable placement. We provide ongoing support and training to all of our volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with us, we would be delighted to hear from you.

FAQ’s

Read about some of the frequently asked questions below.

I don’t have any experience can I still volunteer?

We know that everybody has something to give, no particular skills are needed just a willingness to commit your time, a welcoming manner and a desire to get involved.

How much time would I need to give?

That is up to you – the time required as a volunteer is very flexible, from 1- 2 hours per week to 2 – 8 hours per month. We will work with you and your availability to find a volunteering opportunity that suits both you and the person/service you are supporting.  We do ask for a commitment of at least 6 months if you are a befriending volunteer.  This is because once you have established a relationship with someone in our services, it is important that this support is consistent and regular.

Will I receive training?

You will receive induction training before you start volunteering.  This includes topics such as disability awareness, communication, health and safety and safeguarding.

Will I have support?

We have a dedicated Volunteer Co-ordinator to support our volunteers through the process of Garda vetting, induction, training, and matching with a suitable volunteering opportunity.  We also provide ongoing support and training to all of our volunteers.

What do I get from Volunteering?

Our volunteers play a vital role in our work and in return, you will:

  • Meet new people
  • Become disability and accessibility aware
  • Share in our vision to include people who often, through no fault of their own, may live their lives at the margins of society
  • Be given the opportunity to share your experiences and time with others
